The Washington Coliseum (July 10, 1984, Washington Post)
From Washington Post, May 10, 1988, where club Cheriy’s was located
Hi everybody! After taking a brief, well-deserved hiatus in light of turning in a very long paper on go-go, violence, and the media in the 1980s, I’m back!
Yesterday I was in Som Records browsing their go-go section, and it inspired me to continue posting local labels that produced awesome old-school go-go. Future Records & Tapes was one of them. Courtesy of the DC Soul archive and Discogs, here is what was issued off that label (not sure if this is entirely exhaustive or not):
F-0001 Mass Extension-What’s That ? / Broken Heart / Have Some Fun / You (12”)1984
The Washington Go Go scene of the 1980s inspired some great cover artwork. The best of these militaristic / governmental, proto-rave designs were on Trouble Funk releases on Fourth and Broadway, but this look spread to be a visual trademark of the scene as a whole. Good to Go!
